Shantykoor West Zuid West

Shantykoor West Zuidwest, [West Southwest] the coziest sailor’s choir in Gouda and surroundings!

With 27 people they sing of the rugged sailor life from the glory days of sailing! {Back then we worked hard with our hands!)  Their repertoire consists of authentic working songs (the shanties and forebitters) and sea songs, and we sing of the rough life on board, or the passengers in ports and tropical paradises. We sing them passionately for a diverse audience in Dutch, English, French and German. They perform their songs unanimously, accompanied by accordion and drum. They enjoy singing and performing in their own and especially expressive way. Listen to the shanties from long bygone times and imagine them as lively scenes. Since our inception, we have  developed four of our own theatre shows and put them on stage for sold-out performances. We have so far issued two CDs,  one of which, “Voordat We Varen Gaan” is packaged in a richly illustrated booklet with song lyrics and background information. Our participation in festivals in the Netherlands and Germany has resulted in us having  a well-stocked trophy cabinet!
