Gaye and Josephine Anthony are a mother and daughter folk duo based in Scotland. Both are singer-songwriters in their own right. As a duo they sing folk and traditional songs, songs of the sea, and much much more. Most of all they love singing in harmony.

Gaye has been gracing maritime and shanty festivals from Portsoy to Pampol for around 20 years,

originally in well-known duo Gaye and Trish. During lockdown Josephine and Gaye  co-hosted Aberdeen Folk Club’s online session

The word “Quine” goes back to Old English cwen, meaning a woman, wife or, as in modern English, a queen. An obsolete spelling of this word, quean, shows more clearly the history of this word. The earlier quotations in A Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue refer mainly to young women in service or of restricted financial means.
