The Bluebelles was the first all-female shanty group to take part in the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. The group’s founder and leader was Frances Dawson. [From a Facebook conversation with Claire Foley on 30 May 2024]
The group has disbanded, but inspired Claire Ingleheart to start her own group, Femmes De La Mer.
Not to be confused with the Wiltshire, female acapella choir, The BlueBelles. Also, not to be confused with the female-identifying and non-gender conforming acapella group from the University of Exeter, The Bluebelles.
