Toby Webb is a rising 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Falmouth.

In recent years he has been gigging in a variety of pubs, hotels and festivals in Cornwall, playing cover songs and songs he’s written that are inspired by the Cornish Shanty/Folk scene.

Rising 21-year-old singer-songwriter Toby Webb, from Falmouth, has landed a headline spot at this year’s St Ives September Festival.

Toby, who has been writing, playing the guitar and singing since he was 12 but only recently started gigging, will appear on the same stage as West Country folk star Seth Lakeman, fellow Falmouth resident Will Keating and Cornwall shanty singers Bryher’s Boys.

Toby, who will have a lunchtime slot at St Ia Church on Saturday, September 17, has been inspired by close Cornish friends, local shanty groups and singer-songwriter and St Ia Church favourite Will Keating to “love where I live”.

Toby, who recently released his EP Mermaids and Voyages, said: “I write songs about my home and the love I have for a girl who knows all the words to every shanty song in the world.” . . .

Festival music organiser Jo Grant said: “Cornwall is such a creative county and young acts like Toby need a platform like this.

“I really hope people support the festival and it makes our community realise how lucky we are to have such lovely, talented people in it.

“Hopefully some kids will see them and realise you can pursue your dreams.”
