Waterford Male Voice Choir was founded in 2001 and since its inception has created quite a stir in music circles in the South-East. The idea to set up the choir came about when a few friends who share a love of singing met in a local pub and decided the time was right to set up a male voice choir. While Waterford is famous for its choral traditions there had never been a Waterford Male Voice Choir. They decided to meet on a regular basis and experience singing in a more formal setting; the rest, as the saying goes, is history.

From an initial group of just 10 members the Choir has gone from strength to strength and now boasts a membership of nearly 60. The Choir soon realised it had the potential to progress far more than it originally thought and performed in two concerts and competed in the New Ross, AIMS Festival in its first year. Since then it has performed many concerts with local and international choirs raising tens of thousands of euros for Waterford charities along the way.

Waterford Male Voice Choir has travelled extensively over the years to the UK, Poland, Italy, Austria and Spain. In Rome, the Choir had the great honour of performing at Sunday evening mass in Saint Peter’s Basilica. It has also performed in the Schubert Theatre in Vienna competing at the 30th International Franz Schubert Choir Competition where it achieved a “Silver Standard”. Another proud achievement was to be invited to sing in our own National Concert Hall in Dublin, where we performed in the Friends of St. Luke’s Annual Paddy Cole Concert, 2013.
