Overview
Harry Lowrey and Arthur Garnett play concertinas and sing shanties, songs of the sea and traditional folk songs. Their earliest maritime grouping was as a trio along with Jack Coutts, called Black Dog. Later, they appeared alongside legendary sailor and shanty collector, Stan Hugill, for many years as members of the legendary shanty band Stormalong John, they stand apart as two of the finest voices to have come out of Liverpool. Their early recordings have shaped the repertoire and style in which maritime music is performed all over Europe and North America, and they continue to influence new generations of folk musicians.
Two absolute gentlemen and great artists who have performed with us.
—Rosses Point Shanty
Over six decades of performing together, Arthur and Harry have developed a close musical sympathy, delighting audiences everywhere with their natural Liverpudlian ability to spin a yarn.
Their recent album, Companions By The Sea, is a remarkable testament to this magnificent life-long musical partnership, presenting well known classics alongside newly discovered gems, and is a masterclass in song delivery and accompaniment. This album on CD is only available for sale in-person.
Occasionally, they perform with their good friend, Gerry Ffrench, where they are billed as Yesterday’s Men & Gerry Ffrench.
