Why did we [Shipwrecked Shanty Crew] end up having lyric boards? THIS GIRL! When some unsuspecting salty song-sailors happened upon Slainte Pub just after Covid open its doors, she grabbed a nearby dry erase board (the one that said ‘Tips!’) and wrote chorus lyrics upon it. The room LIT UP with song, and “SHANTYOKÉ” was officially born!
She, who never wants credit, but will just have to suffer with it today. The unsung hero behind so much of the shanty love and magic — my fiancé, Amanda. We met at a Quinn’s shanty night, and the rest is sea-sprayed history. Once a real-life Coastie, she was working a piracy conference when the Maersk Alabama was hijacked (yes, that “Captain Phillips” story). These days? She’s joined the pirates! YAR!
She ain’t no ‘Yoko’, she’s part of the crew! Smart, sexy, slightly salty, and always helpful to the cause of shanties! See her this SATURDAY at the Sailing Goat in action!
