Overview

Captain Leighton Robinson was one of several working sailors recorded by Alan Lomax and his team, the songs released in the series Folk Music of the United States in 1952.  The collection was re-released as American Sea Songs & Shanties under the Library of Congress Archive of Folk Culture.  Sam Eskin recorded Robinson at Mill Valley, California in 1931.

The liner notes for this collection are very well written, but refer the reader for further study in the works of William Main Doerflinger (Shantymen and Shantyboys) and Joanna C. Colcord (Songs of American Sailormen).
