Overview

Marek Szurawski is the founder of the “Stare Dzwony” band and an almost legendary figure in the shanty community. He is the author of many shanties, a translator and popularizer of this art. “W mała fingercu” has a history of great sailing ships, and among shanty performers he enjoys special attention, also due to his ability to play the concertina and bones, the original instruments on which people used to play. His most famous pieces include “Antyplasterek cytryny” “Śmiały Harpunnik”, “Brzeg Peru” and “Do Lonwlands Low”. Marek Szurawski also deals with interpersonal training, memory exercises, efficient thinking and personality development.

Kliper siedmiu mórz was a Polish radio program about sea songs and related matters.

“I remember hanging out with these guys when we were performing in Poland. Marek was incredibly charismatic and seemed super-confident and important. I always wondered if he was working for State Security.  We were once approached by some militia in Warsaw that cleared off very sheepishly as soon as Marek spoke to them!” — Tony Goodenough of The Shanty Crew.
