Overview
Peter Truin is the choir director for the Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir. He is a former member of The Ballina Whalers. He performs with Anna Cornish as Pete and Anna. He performs with Anna Cornish and Eleanor Dale as Cornish, Dale and Truin.
Pete Truin is a musician, composer, arranger and educator. He has a broad knowledge of both classical and oral musical traditions, particularly jazz, funk, world and folk music, as well as a thorough understanding of musical theory and composition.
With a background in jazz and improvised music, Pete developed a special interest in folk song cultures; since 2012 Pete has been researching, arranging and performing traditional work songs and other maritime music, as well as writing contemporary maritime songs. Pete established and led the Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir in London, UK, a non-audition community choir appearing in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues and performing at maritime music festivals in France and Scandinavia.
Pete also works as an educator with musicians and non-musicians of all abilities in schools, hospitals, children’s hospices, prisons and the wider community. Since 2018 Pete has worked for the charity Changing Tunes as Musician in Residence at HM Prison Bristol and Vinney Green Secure Unit
