Portaferry Sails & Sounds is Northern Ireland’s only dedicated sea shanty festival. It first launched in 2016 and is a classic boat and music festival based at Portaferry Sailing Club.

Portaferry Sails & Sounds Maritime Heritage, Shanty and Ulster-Scots Festival 2026 will take place from Friday 31 July to Monday 3 August 2026, bringing four days of music, maritime heritage, sailing, storytelling, family activity and community celebration to the shores of Strangford Lough.

Sails & Sounds is proudly recognised as Northern Ireland’s only dedicated sea shanty festival, making it a unique cultural event within the local tourism and heritage calendar. The festival celebrates Portaferry’s strong maritime identity, sailing traditions, coastal heritage and Ulster-Scots connections through a lively, welcoming and inclusive programme for all ages.

Portaferry is located on the beautiful Ards Peninsula, on the shores of Strangford Lough, County Down.

Most events are free, though some require advance booking or tickets through EventBrite.
