Overview

Sing-Outs on the second Wednesday of the month from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Kingswinford Community Centre (High St, Kingswinford DY6 8AP, United Kingdom). You get 2 visits as a guest then you have to join U3A, but that’s only £15 a year then a pound per meeting.

(A note about the U3A —  there are lots of other music and singing groups as well plus things like genealogy, walking, travel, etc.)

If you want to know definitively what to do with a drunken sailor, meet someone who claims to be a native of South Australia or hear tall tales of tall ships, then this is the group for you.

We sing traditional shanties from the days of sail, more reflective songs of love and loss together with modern material that harks back to those long gone days.

Shanties are normally led by a shantyman who sings the verses and the rest of the group belt out the chorus, nearly always a capella. Sometimes it’s ‘all in’ throughout a song. Anyone can be that shantyman, so I encourage you to bring your own favourites to the table.

Lyrics will be sent by email in advance of each meeting for you to print out or download onto a mobile device.
