Overview
Marée de Paradis was a group of musicians and singers from Normandy in France, with a repertoire composed exclusively of traditional maritime songs from Normandy (Chant de Terre-Neuvas fécampois, Chants de Cap-Horniers havrais and fishermen from the Normandy coast).
By being awarded with the Hayet Trophy at the Paimpol Sailor Song Festiva of 1999, an international competition for the singing of the sailor songs of French-speaking countries, sponsored by the magazine Chasse-marée in 1999. Marée de Paradis became one of the major references of traditional sailor songs, not only in France, but also in Europe, and in the United States.
Marée de Paradis disbanded in 2020.
“Cap Ouest” from Le Havre, composed of musicians from Marée de Paradis took over the torch in the same spirit and with the same energy. Laurent Barray may also currently be found performing along with Valentin Barray as the “Duo Barray.”
