Le XV Marin is a maritime music group of ex-rugby players from around the Nantes area of Brittany.

30 years already! What a funny name for a group of sailor songs! When the group was created in October 1993, many of its members were then playing in a rugby club in Nantes. After the matches, as tradition dictates, the songs were in order, rugby songs of course but also sailors’ songs. Finally, with the time of their retirement from rugby approaching these happy guys decide not to lose touch with each other and to meet again in order to share something else: Singing. Thus the group was born and its name was decided on quite naturally, with reference to their sporting past: LE XV MARIN.

The group consists of 9 singers including 4 musicians: Accordion, violin, guitar, flute and oboe.

Today recognised as a reference in the world of maritime song, the group has 3 CDs to its credit, which include many new compositions.

“For all these years we have travelled miles and crisscrossed France. We host neighbourhood festivals, association evenings and participate in many national and international events such as the maritime music festivals of Paimpol, Brest, Douarnenez, Royan, Cherbourg and Grand-Pavois de la Rochelle. But also, the nautical festivals in Paris, Nantes, Royan, Paris fishing port and the maritime song festivals in Montreal, Quebec, etc…”

Note: There would also appear to be a four-piece musical group using the same name.

The group’s Facebook site did not appear to be accessible as at May 2026, nor was it possible to find a website or contact details for them.
