Please come along to sing or to listen in Liverpool the Spiritual Heart of the Sea Shanty with hosts, Trim Rig & a Doxy.

The Pig and Whistle, 12 Covent Garden, Liverpool L2 8UA is a unique Liverpool pub located above a shop celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2025. This historic pub has a rich past, from its origins as a boarding house and brothel to its association with dockers and seafarers. During renovations, a ‘ghost sign’ was uncovered, revealing a hidden chapter of the building’s history.

The pub is celebrated for its typical Liverpudlian sense of humour, its Facebook page states – “The pub in two post codes! We have an amazing mural, karaoke and functional toilet seats. Dog friendly, cask ale (returning soon) and the most dubious Beatles attraction in Liverpool. Not a brothel since 1875,” and is said to be much nicer inside than appearances suggest, especially since its recent renovation.

“The house guitars are back – come in and strum yourself senseless!

“Liverpool’s Most Dubious Beatles Attraction has been polished up to match our new look. Pop down to see where Paul and Mike might once have sat.”

“We’re ecstatic to be back with our stunning new look! Bigger, brighter and cleaner than ever. Come see us before we ruin it.”

At time of writing, (October 2025) its has been possible to find reference to Karaoke but not shanty sessions being held in the venue, “We’d like to assure our valued customers that we also have plenty of terrible karaoke, and we wouldn’t want it any other way!” and cannot confirm that this shanty session listing is currently live. Fingers crossed!
